Did you know the beautiful blue bird, which is found across
North America, isn’t blue? Their feathers contain tiny air
pockets which reflect light in the blue wavelength, making
them appear blue. Only the males appear blue, and females
are more of a muddy-grey color.
Interestingly, unpaired males are known to sing between
500 and 1000 songs PER HOUR trying to attract a mate.
That’s persistence! This little guy looks as though he’s been
caught mid-song, and his open mouth doubles as a spout
for this little pitcher.
