Rediscovering Beth

Hosted in the main gallery, August 22 - October 28. This exhibit explores the work of local modern abstract artist Beth Hornocker, just as she has begun to explore her own art journey.

“This collection represents a season of remembering and searching for the person I used to be and the one I hope to become.

I have always been drawn to abstract art but had never had the courage to explore painting in this style. As I have entered a new season of life, it has helped me to rediscover my passions and this led me to finally being brave enough to explore painting freely and more abstractly.

You can see the progression in this collection of me slowly loosening up and painting more freely beginning with the contemporary collage quilts and those evolving into a much more loose, deconstructed quilt. And then finally with the much more loose expressive abstracts.

While you're observing the collection, notice the titles for each painting. Many are words and phrases taken from my journals during this season of work. They were ‘pep talks’ to keep me encouraged and working towards growth.”

Breadwig’s Whimsical World of Whatever

Hosted in the basement gallery, August 22 - October 28. Bryan Ballinger is a local artist who creates illustrations for children’s books, websites, games, videos, ads, and more. He has also done murals all over Indiana, 3D toy design, and, in his own words, “gobs of other stuff.”

This show explores the whimsical characters Ballinger creates across a variety of mediums: from sculpture to illustration work, and even jewelry and tile work. All of his ideas start with characters. More specifically, his work begins from doodles, sketchbooks, and his love of drawing dogs and other animals.

“Maybe I want to live in a world where these characters really exist. Maybe since I’ve made them, in some fashion, they do exist. Who’s to say? After seeing the show, please let me know what level or reality you think they exist at. My characters and I want to know.”

MAC Gala: The American Canvas

Join the Marion Arts Commission for an inspiring evening celebrating the power of creativity, community, and the enduring spirit of American expression. As our nation approaches its 250th anniversary, MAC Gala 2026 honors the artists, dreamers, makers, and storytellers who continue to shape the cultural heartbeat of our community.

Set against an atmosphere of elegance and celebration, the evening will feature a curated live and silent art auction showcasing works from talented local and regional artists, along with hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and opportunities to connect with community leaders, creatives, patrons, and supporters who believe in the future of the arts in Marion and Grant County.

Proceeds from the evening directly support the mission of the Marion Arts Commission—strengthening arts and culture initiatives, supporting local artists, expanding creative opportunities, and helping cultivate a vibrant cultural identity for Marion.

The Beauty of U.S.

In recognition of the 250th birthday of the United States, the Kennedy Art Center is honored to mark this celebratory moment by featuring works created by the Grant County Art Association. The Beauty of U.S. invites our community, county, and country to grow closer through the shared language of painting, photography, and sculpture. Our goal is to unite us through the beauty found in the United States.

This collection reflects what the GCAA artists love about the United States of America. They captured the awe of natural landscapes, the architectural achievements of manmade structures, and illuminated elements of everyday life. These works spark feelings of wonder, joy, and nostalgia. As you look through the gallery, we invite you to reflect on the unique beauty you find in the places we call home.

The Grant County Art Association (GCAA), a nonprofit organization founded in 1952, is a community of artists and art enthusiasts dedicated to encouraging the active participation in and appreciation of the fine arts. GCAA welcomes interested adults of all skill levels.

To foster public interest and involvement in the arts, GCAA holds two original Art Shows each year in the Marion Public Library.

For more information, find GCAA on Facebook or Instagram, or email GrantCountyArtAssociation@yahoo.com.

The opening reception for this show will be held May 9th from 1 - 3 PM. The public is welcome. Refreshments will be provided.

Ma.

The following is a statement from the artist, Tashema Davis:

“This exhibition is dedicated to the community of Marion, Indiana, showcasing a body of work created in 2025. It marks the third ‘Ma.’ exhibition for the city, following a project that began in 2022. I sought community input for nominations, aiming to create artwork with intention and purpose. Having developed a deep appreciation for the subject I know best—African American women—I chose to center this collection on women of color within my community, as selected by community members.

The title of the exhibition is deeply rooted in cultural significance. This two-letter term is often spoken with great respect and admiration, transcending age and resonating clearly within the community. The first exhibit focused on honoring the women we know and love, while the second showcased the theme of ‘light,’ highlighting how each woman carries a light within our community. From the insights gained during the second show, I recognized the importance of continuing this work.

For ‘Ma. 3,’ my intention is to explore the connection between faces and places. We often hear the phrase, ‘I know her from somewhere,’ and I hope this body of work will establish a bridge between individual identities and their corresponding spaces. It is my aspiration that the next time you encounter these remarkable individuals, you will be familiar with a part of their story and remember the place where you were most profoundly impacted.”

The opening reception is free and open to the public, January 17th 2026, from 1-3 pm. Light refreshments will be provided.
